Dissemination activities in September and October 2026

During September and early October 2026, the InToxFIRE team continued to disseminate the project’s outcomes through a range of high-profile conferences and seminars globally.

On 01 October 2026, Dr. Svetlana Tretsiakova-McNally delivered an invited talk at the Fire Research Seminar, held online by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), USA. Through her speak with the title, “A Small-scale Assessment of Fire Contaminants Movement through Firefighters’ Protective Clothing”, she shared the most recent results of the InToxFIRE project. The talk was followed by a questions and answers session and discussions were carried out around the transfer and accumulation of moisture through studied firefighters suit ensembles, their protection performance against diffusion of fire generated toxic chemicals, removal of per- or polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) and its influences on protection behaviour of firefighter gears.

Dr. Hamed Rasouli Sadabad attended the Occupational and Environmental Exposure of Skin to Chemicals (OEESC2026) conference in Manchester (UK), held by the British Occupational Hygiene Society (BOHS) in 14–16 September 2026. He delivered an oral presentation titled “Assessment of Fireground Toxic Chemicals Transfer through Firefighters’ Protective Clothing” and shared the recent experimental results of the InToxFIRE project.

The conference provided a high-quality international platform for discussing dermal exposure to toxic chemicals from different perspectives including firefighting activities and exchanging research viewpoints with professionals working in this field.

Dr. Svetlana Tretsiakova-McNally attended the Irish Battery Research Conference (IBRC) held on 9 September 2026 at the Bernal Institute, University of Limerick (Republic of Ireland) for delivering an invited talk. During her presentation she shared the results of the InToxFIRE project and their possible application in understanding the hazards associated with firefighters’ exposure to the generated toxic chemicals in lithium-ion batteries fire events as well as introducing the facilities and capabilities of the Fire Safety Engineering Research and Technology Centre (FireSERT), Ulster University (UK) to be engaged in the fire ground chemical hazard studies.

The InToxFIRE team continues to share project developments, research outcomes and future events with the global fire safety community.

Stay tuned for more updates on the InToxFIRE project and future developments in fire protection research.
